What you’re seeing (images #1 & #2) is a very shallow depth engrave made from a “height map” of the area. I didn’t do the Street or Topo lines either. So I made it the only thing that was pure black at #000 to get these results. During testing though the lake was vanishing in the elevation. IIRC the lowest grey color value I used was a medium grey at #888888. Used a height map that I had to posterized, then vectorize, then seriously lighten the tone of everything.
