I had only recently upgraded from the 2010 version of the program to 2012, because Intuit only lets you automatically download transactions from your bank and other financial institutions into the software for two years following the current version of the Quicken program that you own.
With the promise that order was restored, I decided to give the new version of Quicken a try myself. Intuit has released no fewer than 11 software patches or fixes since launch. To its credit, Intuit owned up to this "difficult period." The company told me that just after the release, as many as a quarter of its mobile users had experienced issues, a number that Intuit claims is now down to well under 1%.
"It's shameful Intuit would release a product that should be a beta than a production release," Quicken customer Robert P. The reaction at places such as, where Quicken is sold online, was understandably harsh. Transactions you thought you had cleared and reconciled were no longer in balance. In some instances, duplicate transactions showed up other times, transactions were deleted.

The account balances shown on the PC version of Quicken sometimes differed from what showed up on mobile. Last October's release of the cloud-based Quicken 2013 for Windows was an embarrassment, though Intuit has since gotten around to mostly cleaning things up.Īn accounting: Among the much ballyhooed features behind the 2013 software - remarkably, the first version of Quicken to go mobile in a meaningful way - was that through free companion iOS and Android apps, you could use Quicken on your smartphone and tablet to check out checking, savings and credit card balances wherever you happened to be and to enter transactions on the fly. Financial records are simply too important to mess up.
If, like me, you were methodical about entering financial transactions, the expectation was that the data you supply and manage is kept safe, up-to-date, and accurate. Long-time fans of Intuit's personal finance flagship - I've used it since the 1990s - have employed the software to monitor banking and investment accounts, create budgets and to get a precise handle not only on how much money they've got but where they're spending it. By its nature, you place an enormous amount of trust in a program such as Quicken.
